We do have a bizarre need to anthropomorphise all kinds of things, I think that is a recognised phenomenon. Quite why we want to do it to things we’re supposed to eat, I don’t understand.
Take the M&Ms advert, for instance, where the M&Ms try to assault a man who has gone to the cupboard to try and take them for his girlfriend/partner/really lazy cleaner to eat.
I think it’s fair enough that they try and injure him by throwing things out of the cupboard – they do, after all, have little arms and legs and faces and quite distinct personalities that have come out in the series of adverts that M&Ms have shown so far.
In fact, it’s actually quite barbaric that anyone would consider eating a 12-inch tall M&M that’s been talking to you, and thankfully once the heartless bastard argues the confectionery item into a bowl the advert cuts away before the disgusting couple can bit into his beautiful crispy red head.
